GS​ is the abbreviation of the German term "Geprüfte Sicherheit"​ (meaning "Safety Tested / Certified Safety"), and is also commonly understood
 

as "Germany Safety."​ GS certification is a voluntary certification based on the German Product Safety Act (GPSG), with testing carried out in

accordance with the harmonized European standards (EN) or German industrial standards (DIN). It is a German safety certification mark widely

recognized across the European market.

The GS Mark

The GS mark indicates that the safety of the product in use has been tested by a credible, independent third-party organization. Although the GS

mark is not mandated by law, in the event of an accident caused by product failure, it subjects the manufacturer to the strict provisions of the

German (European) Product Safety Act. Therefore, the GS mark is a powerful marketing tool that strengthens consumer confidence and

purchasing desire. Although GS is a German standard, it is accepted by the vast majority of European countries. Moreover, meeting GS

certification requirements also means the product satisfies the requirements of the EU CE marking. Unlike CE certification, the GS mark is not

legally mandatory; however, as safety awareness has become deeply ingrained among ordinary consumers, electrical appliances bearing the GS

mark may enjoy greater competitiveness in the market than comparable products without it.

Product Scope of GS Certification

GS certification applies to German electrical and electronic products, with the following specific product categories:

1. Household appliances, such as refrigerators, washing machines, kitchen appliances, etc.
    
2. Household machinery.
    
3. Sports and leisure equipment.
    
4. Household electronic equipment, such as audio-visual equipment.

GS Certification Application Process

1. Application:​ The applicant submits the required documentation. For electrical products, this includes the general assembly drawing, electrical schematic diagram, bill of materials, product purpose or installation instructions, and a description of the differences between models in the series, etc.
    
2. Sample Testing:​ Testing is carried out in accordance with the applicable standards and may be conducted at the manufacturer's laboratory or at any of the testing organization's laboratories located in various countries.
    
3. Factory Inspection:​ GS certification requires an inspection of the production site regarding safety-related procedures.
    
4. Issuance of the GS Certificate.
