Product Description

Projectors exported to the United States must comply with a range of mandatory and voluntary certification standards, primarily covering four key

dimensions: electrical safety, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), energy efficiency, and wireless functionality (if applicable). Certain applications

may also require adherence to environmental regulations or product labeling requirements. Below is a detailed breakdown of the latest

certification standards and requirements for 2025:

I. Mandatory Core Certifications: The Entry Threshold for the U.S. Market

1. Electrical Safety Certification: UL 62368-1:2025 (4th Edition)

  • Scope of Application:
Applies to all electrically driven projectors (including power adapters and internal circuitry). This is a mandatory safety standard required by the U.S. Code of Federal Regulations (CFR Title 16), designed to prevent risks such as electric shock, fire, and mechanical hazards.

  • Key Updates for 2025:

    • Prohibition of Legacy Standard Components: Components certified under the obsolete standards IEC 60950-1 (IT equipment) or IEC 60065 (audio/video equipment) are no longer accepted. A comprehensive review of the Bill of Materials (BOM) is required.

    • Enhanced Button Cell Battery Safety: New requirements under UL 4200A mandate that battery compartments be designed to prevent access by children.

    • Liquid Cooling System Specifications: Modular liquid cooling systems with a capacity exceeding 1 liter must now meet new requirements for leak detection and fluid compatibility.

    • Segmented Testing for Lithium Batteries: Rechargeable lithium batteries must be tested according to segmented parameters. Stationary lithium battery systems (e.g., large-scale energy storage units) are now included within the scope of mandatory testing.

  • Test Content:
Electrical insulation performance, abnormal operation (short circuit/overload), mechanical strength, and enclosure ventilation slot
    dimensions.

    • Note: Projectors equipped with lithium batteries require additional testing for charge/discharge protection mechanisms and thermal runaway prevention.

2. Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) and Wireless Certification: FCC Certification

  • Scope of Application:
Applies to all electronic devices, categorized into two classes:

    • FCC SDoC (Supplier’s Declaration of Conformity): Applies to projectors without wireless functionality. Requires passing FCC testing for conducted and radiated emissions.

    • FCC ID Certification: Projectors containing wireless modules (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth) require more rigorous third-party testing, including:

      • RF performance (transmit power, frequency band compliance).

      • SAR testing (for devices used in close proximity to the body, such as portable projectors).

  • New Requirements:

    • Wi-Fi 6E devices must support Dynamic Frequency Selection (DFS) in the 6GHz band. 5G devices are subject to review for TLS 1.3 encryption protocol compliance.

  • 2025 Regulatory Updates:

    • Laboratory Restrictions: Laboratories affiliated with the Chinese military-industrial complex are prohibited from conducting tests. It is recommended to select FCC-recognized laboratories in Southeast Asia or the U.S. mainland.

    • Labeling and Documentation: The FCC ID must be clearly marked on the product (minimum height: 5mm). Test reports must be retained for 10 years for inspection purposes.

  • Certification Timeline:
FCC SDoC takes approximately 5–7 business days; FCC ID certification requires 2–3 weeks.

II. Energy Efficiency Certification: Federal and State Dual Requirements
1. Federal Level: DOE Energy Efficiency Certification

  • Scope of Application:
Applies to all projectors, which must comply with the Energy Policy and Conservation Act (EPCA) and the regulations outlined in 10 CFR Part 430.

  • Test Content:
Key metrics including luminous efficacy (light output efficiency), standby power consumption, and off-mode power consumption.

  • New Requirements for 2025:
Battery charging systems (e.g., projectors with built-in lithium batteries) must meet the Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS).

  • Certification Process:
Submit test reports for registration via the CCMS system → Obtain a DOE registration number → Label the product with its energy efficiency rating (an Energy Guide label is required for certain products).

  • Compliance Risks:
Non-certified products may be detained by Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and e-commerce platforms such as Amazon will enforce mandatory delisting.

2. California State Level: CEC Energy Efficiency Certification

  • Scope of Application:
Applies specifically to projectors sold in California. The requirements are stricter than those mandated by the DOE.

  • Test Content:
Luminous efficacy, standby power consumption (must be ≤ 0.5W), brightness uniformity, etc.

  • New Requirements for 2025:
Smart home devices must support energy management protocols (such as Matter).

  • Certification Process:
Submit an application to a CEC-recognized laboratory → Upon passing testing, register on the official CEC website → Renew the certification every two years.

  • Important Note:
Both DOE and CEC requirements must be satisfied simultaneously; otherwise, the product cannot enter the California market.

III. Voluntary Certifications: Enhancing Market Competitiveness
1. ENERGY STAR® Certification

  • Scope of Application:
Voluntary certification applicable to projectors seeking to obtain an eco-friendly label.

  • 2025 Standard (Version 8.0):
Luminous efficacy has been increased by 15%, and standby power consumption must be ≤ 0.3W.
Test data must be submitted via the official ENERGY STAR Product Registry.

  • Advantages:
Eligibility for U.S. government subsidies and prioritized visibility in Amazon search results.

2. Environmental Compliance: California Proposition 65 (Prop 65)

  • Scope of Application:
If the product contains hazardous substances such as lead or phthalates, a clear warning label must be affixed to the packaging or included in the user manual.

  • Test Content:
Heavy metals (lead, cadmium), chemicals (formaldehyde, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons/PAHs), etc.

  • Important Note:
Failure to provide the required warning may result in consumer class-action lawsuits.

IV. Other Key Requirements
1. FDA Radiation Safety Certification

  • Scope of Application:
Applies to projectors utilizing laser light sources, which must comply with the standard 21 CFR Part 1040.

  • Test Content:
Laser classification (Class 1/2/3R), beam divergence, and safety interlock mechanisms.

  • Certification Process:
Submit test reports to the FDA. No factory inspection is required.
